Avant-Commercials

Maybe, just maybe, these German commercials for some kind of construction-materials store, could inspire someone in the internet marketing community to seek new and more avant-gardistic ways of advertising.

To me, these commercials, where long-time frontman of German noise-masters Einstürzende Neubauten (they actually did sound like their name in the beginning of their career) Blixa Bargeld reads from the catalog of the store as if it was some kind of high-poetry, was both highly entertaining and a stroke of inspired genius in a world of dreary, bland television commercials.

Any more of this, and the commercial blocks on tv might actually become more entertaining than the regular programming.

Anyway -- here they are, all collected into one long feature. Enjoy (about time we got some rock’n'roll into the programming here at the blog :-) )

RAPBank – the greatest idea of 2010?

RAPBank - greatest idea of 2010?Just a quick heads up on something I think looks to be an awesome new service: RAPBank.

RAPBank aims to be for instant commission, RAP-based products what ClickBank has proven to be for (more or less) any type of ‘normal’ info-product (where normal means promote through ClickBank – and you’ll get the money at a later date – once you’ve met a number of other conditions too).

Short explanation: Rapid Action Profits is an awesome script (although there is a learning curve) for setting up so-called instant commission affiliate programs. These function by alternating between sending customers to the vendors paypal account and the affiliates paypal account. So, if the commission is 50% the first sale goes to the vendor, the next to the affiliate and so on. For 75% commission the first goes to the vendor, the next 3 to the affiliate.

RAPBank aims to be a ClickBank like marketplace for RAP-based products, giving the same benefits as CB does regarding everything in one place, good stats etc. while at the same time giving the benefits of instant commissions – really can’t beat the warm, fuzzy feeling of money trickling into your paypal account, right

On top of that, they’re a lot more generous with their own commissions – regular members get 25% commissions on the purchases by referred members. VendorPlus members get 50%.

Now, being RAP-based of course means they have to do things a bit differently than CB, as they are in no position to charge you directly for sales etc. So, instead of paying a fee for setting up your product and then a given percentage off each sale, RAPBank is set up as a membership site, with a monthly fee.

It’s of course free for affiliates and the casual vendor can put up a product without paying anything, but if you want to be a regular vendor, you need to shell out – the good part being, that until final launch on April 1, the monthly fee is halved to $27/month. And let’s face it – if you sell halfway well of your products, it’s bound to be a lot cheaper than paying percentages to Clickbank. And there really is a load of extra features hidden behind those $27/month – me, I reckon it’s affordable, and well-spent.

On top of this you have to have a license for each domain you wish to include products from. There is one license included in the sign-up. After that, it’s a very reasonable $27 for a pack of 5 licenses (and no extra monthly fee).

Fair reminder though: To sell through RAPBank you need the Rapid Action Profits script, but either way, it’s still free to sign up as an affiliate and simply promote what’s available in there. There’s already over 400 products in there and more than 1750 members – so go join the fun.

I wager this site will become very important – important enough for me to change the membership site I’m launching this week from monthly commissions to instant commissions. A decision taken within 30 minutes from checking out the bank for the first time.

An Antidote for Bad Infoproducts

After having watched yet another hyped-up, “damn-it-I-earn-money-on-the-internet-I-must-be-a-guru-even-if-I-can’t-tell-the-difference-between-a-keyboard-and-a-keyhole” marketing course (the info-product equivalent of a body lying in water for a couple of months), I thought I’d offer my readers an antidote consisting of a couple of completely free educational resources, which is easily worth a whole lot more than what’s being offered at the $77-$197 mark out there – and two of them are ongoing, so your value-for-(no)-money will just get bigger every single month.

1) Affiliate Funnel
Even if you’re not that much into Traffic Exchanges, Safelists, and Downline building, the online seminars on Affiliate Funnel is definitely worth listening to. (If not for anything else, then for Randy’s talk about salespages ). There’s a lot of simple no-nonsense advise in these audios. It’s free to sign up for AF
http://affiliatefunnel.com.

And if you’re having trouble finding the seminar-blog, it’s at http://affiliatefunnel.com/news/, after you’ve logged in.

2) OfferVault

OfferVault is a portal for a lot of Affiliate- and CPA-networks, but, on top of that they’ve got an excellent series of weekly webinars on a variety of subjects relating to affiliate marketing. They’re normally over an hour each, and filled to the brim with content. And, again, it’s free to sign up.

http://offervault.com/

3) NobleSamurai Dojo
NobleSamurai is the makers of Marketing Samurai, one of the absolutely greatest keyword tools around.

Now, on their site, they’ve got at great series of videos, on keyword research, and even though they’re of course targeted at Market Samurai, there’s enough regular knowledge on keyword-research in there to make it worth your while, at least for the Keyword Research and the SEO Competition videos.

It’s at http://www.noblesamurai.com/dojo/marketsamurai (no registration or opt-in required).

Well, that’s should be enough to get you started – hope you find some value in these great resources. There are literally dozens of hours of value, just ripe for the taking.

Considering BlackHat Methods? – Think Again!

OK, Automation is the name of the game here at PayBack Towers. The more you can automate your business (or rather the processes that make up your business), the more productive you can be in the end, right? Right!

Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that any automation is good. For instance, it’s a well known fact by now, that an article marketer using mass-article submission as an automation weapon is going to be penalized (to an extent, anyway) by the Search Engines. And just think about this logically for a moment – it really does make perfect sense. I mean, consider your own business – if someone (anyone) was doing something that would end up giving your customers a worse product, you’d fight it with teeth and claws. And the Search Engines think exactly the same way. The product they’re delivering to their customers are reliable, high-quality search results. And they want this to be true for every damn search result they’re delivering (or at least as close to every one as possible).

When someone uses some kind of black hat, method to game the search engine results, what do you think the Search Engines will do about that. Sit happily, idly by and watch what’s going on – or use all of their (considerable) resources to try and thwart this attempt? That’s a no-brainer question if there ever was one.

So, whenever a new gaming method pops up – like keyword stuffing, backlink gaming, content scrambling, whatever – you can bet your business that the Search Engines will be aware. Do not make the mistake of believing for a second, that the Search Engines are unaware of any publicly known new methods. They read the same info you do. They’re on the same lists you are. They buy the same products you do (they can afford this rather better than you can, though :-) ). In short, they know.

And, of course, this is not limited to Search Engines. Everywhere you go to create some kind of presence, there’ll be people monitoring what’s going on, ready to step on the brakes the minute they notice something fishy. Spamming on Twitter? You’ll get banned. Gaming CraigsList? You’ll get banned. Etc. Ad infinitum. So, if you’re considering using BlackHat methods, you damn well better be one of the ones inventing the stuff, cause they’re the only ones sure to profit from this – first from exploiting the methods in the first place, after that, they’ll sell you the info at a healthy price.

Now, when it comes to using automation, you have to figure this into the puzzle, that you’re only automating legitimate processes – i.e. you’re going to be automating exactly the same processes you would do manually to achieve the wanted result.

Let’s take the TwAitter service I wrote about the other day as an example. Now, it would be pretty easy to set this up to totally spam the hell out of your Twitter account. A few hours of work every month would be what was needed. But! This would probably lead to Twitter doing one of two things – banning your account and/or contacting TwAitter, telling them to impose some hefty limits on their service. Guess what – you’ll be pretty unpopular at both sites.

If, instead of this, you look at TwAitter, as a way to do easier what you’d otherwise do perfectly within the Twitter TOS – say, promoting a few programs, sending some self development quotes, and stuff like that. So you set up a tweeting schedule for the next 2 weeks, with about one tweet per hour. Now, you’ve got your campaigns going – guess what? You’ve now freed up some time which you could use to actually being social on Twitter. Can you see the difference?

So, this is the sort of distinction you’d need to consider each and every time you want to automate some of the processes of your business. PayBack would very much like to help you with this, which is why there’re going to be a lot more reviews and presentations of tools and services on this blog (given time – reviewing and presenting these are not one of the things we’re going to automate :-) )

Do be aware though, that things change continually in this. What’s perfectly acceptable behaviour today, could be severely frowned upon next week. It’s the nature of the beast, and you’ve got to roll with the punches. See it like this – you’ve got absolutely no say in how services like Google or Twitter is run – if you’re lucky they’ll listen while you complain, but they’ll do things the way they believe is right in the end anyway. As you would concerning your business. So be prepared for changes to come – and when they come… don’t waste time complaining. Act instead.

If there are things you’d like to see us write about – or if you’ve got any questions, tips, or stuff you’d like to discuss, please leave a comment or send an email. We’re always happy to chat about these subjects – they are, after all, close to our hearts (and businesses).

Twitter Tools: TwAitter

I must admit – I’ve been ignoring Twitter for quite some time now – and now it’s become an embarassment, one of those “damn, I never would’ve thought” moments :-p

Well, to make up for that, make amends and pay my dues, I’ve begun researching different Twitter tools  – thus my negligence will become my readers’ benefit, as I’ll be reviewing the tools and services I find most interesting. Watch out for those – they’ll appear whenever I have had to ask myself the question “I wonder if you could do this with Twitter?”

First up was the quite simple question – “I wonder if I can somehow schedule my tweets, so I won’t have to be glued to Twitter all of my time” (I’ll freely admit that automation and tools to leverage your work load is high on my list of priorities – and will be high on the list of subjects touched upon at the PayBack Internet Marketing blog).

Turns out that – of course – yes there were a multitude of tools capable of doing this, ranging from desktop applications (WTF – I really don’t need any more desktop apps that require my computer to run 24/7) to full-blown online services.

After checking out the market, I decided to give TwAitter a closer look. This should prove to be a wise choice.

TwAitter gives you a couple of very handy possibilities when it comes to automating your Twitter campaigns.

First of all, you can of course (it was what brought me to TwAitter in the first place), schedule your tweets for a given time in the future. But that’s not all.

Whenever a given post has been tweeted, you can simply by clicking a button, make a new copy of this tweet, edit as needed, then schedule this one at a new time. This is pretty powerful stuff, which makes quasi-recurring campaigns somewhat easier.
Third highlight of TwAitter is their calendar view, which gives you a nice graphic calendar view of your schedule (including a highly viewable Timeline view). Again, something that makes things easier, giving a very good overview of your campaigns.

This is topped up with (rather limited though) follow-management, bit.ly integration, spellchecker (in 6 main languages), Twanslation features (I’ve tested the English->Danish one and it seems reasonable – as long as you’ve got a little knowledge of the language you’re translating into, things should be dandy), and a couple of interesting things coming up in future releases…

One of those being a feature which has (apparantly) previously been incorporated into the service, having been withdrawn at the request of Twitter itself: Recurring tweets. Twitter really doesn’t like automation all too much, and apparantly recurring tweets was too much. But the team behind TwAitter has been working behind the scenes, lobbying Twitter to be allowed to reinstate recurring tweets. In December they got the go from big T, and the roll-out was scheduled for mid-December. In short, it was postponed (nothing surprising there – anyone who’s ever worked in IT, or known anyone who does, knows this is the order of the day), so we’re still waiting.

Until it does come, though, there are still plenty of good stuff at TwAitter to help lessen your workload, and the service comes highly recommended.

[Update:] – This just gets better :-) – check out Ryan’s comments below to see what’s happening at TwAitter right now and in the near future – this will turn out to be a major platform for social marketing.

Welcome To Our World

Hi there, and welcome to the PayBack blog, where we’re going to keep you updated on interesting happenings, launches and other exciting internet marketing stuff.

We’re aiming at bringing the fun back into the game – granted, your business should be treated with respect and seriousness, but without fun and love of what you’re doing it all becomes a drab, dreary J-O-B (shudder).

Now, one of the surefire ways of making things funnier and giving you more time and a better overview of your business is automation. So, for the next weeks, I’m going to concentrate on reviewing a few online services and software applications that promise to give you all of the above.

Feel free to give me a shout anytime you’d like – post a comment or send me an email. The human face on marketing of course extends to being available to my readers :-)

See you around
