If you know the Harry Potter books or movies, you might remember The Mirror of Erised.
This is a mirror which shows the “deepest and most desperate desires of ones heart.” In one volume, Harry spends a lot of time with this mirror, totally lost in a dream of his lost parents.
Most aspiring internet marketers I know of have created their very own Mirror of Erised in their minds. With this mirror, they spend loads of time imagining their fantastic internet lifestyle which will magically appear on their doorstep – if not sooner, then when they’ve just found the right, magical, push-button system, making them able to print money on demand.
Ask around, and most honest marketers will tell you they’ve been there, done that. I know, I have. And isn’t it a glorious place? Everything bright and shiny – and fuelled by so many fantastic, deviously alluring salespages.
You know what? The marketers having success out there have all of them kicked the Mirror of Erised out of their lives for good. They recognize what the mirror shows is really only fevered daydreams.
Every journey starts with the first step – but to complete a journey you have to follow that first step up with a concerted effort… more steps, yet more steps and so on, until you’ve arrived at the journey’s goal.
And internet marketing is no different. You choose what you want to do, then you work hard towards succeeding at what you’ve chosen to do. Note, the pertinent words here are “work hard”.
There really is no other way to do it. If you take a few steps towards a destination, then you decide to turn left and take 3 more steps, etc. ad infinitum – where do you think you’ll end up?
The answer will probably be – In the middle of absolutely nowhere. Don’t go there – people are right here waiting for you at the end of your path. And looking forward to see you.
Go on – smash that mirror.
